The Three Oaks Middle School Chorus & Orchestra Parent Association (3COPA) was created by Jim Knecht and Cynthia Blanco in 2001. Its purpose was to promote the Chorus & Orchestra Program and enrich the lives of young people through educational programs in music. Without the opportunity to participate in music programs, youngsters are deprived of unique opportunities to develop their creativity, to learn self-discipline and team work, to increase their sense of self-worth and pride, and to learn to live in a global society. Music is a universal language.
The need for such programs grows bigger every day, as music programs are being reduced or eliminated by school systems that struggle to apportion available funds among required curriculum, extra-curricular and elective programs, payroll, and operating expenses. With the increase in violence and substance abuse, music programs are a positive option in today's society.
3COPA is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization supporting music education at Three Oaks Middle School. 3COPA serves as the sole financial provider on behalf of the Chorus & Orchestra Program, and effectively distributes donations of cash, resources, goods and services directly to the music program. We fund projects encouraging student participation in music programs. We sponsor community events encouraging collaboration between industry professionals, parents, local businesses, and other music departments. Participation in music programs is highly correlated with a young person's academic, intellectual and social success. 3COPA believes it is imperative we give students every available means of improving their ability to learn and grow. Music is a proven means to that end.
